Re: winterizing question?

Truth is I actually hook the garden hose right to the intake house before the thermastat housing.
Then I let her run, bypasing the water pump in the lower end all together.

does that not burn out your water pump impeller?

Yes it does, but he also thinks if you use muffs you will get $1800 worth of damage. Read reply #16.

Re: winterizing question?

Oh boy!!! Just done a search because someone asked me for a 'friend request' and I wanted to see who it was. Lead me to this thread... What a mess!!! So much miss-information and 'he said, she said'... And 'mechanics' talking out of their ... You know where I'm pointing. :D

ok...
1. Cranking an engine with no water at the pick up will not hurt anything. I occasionally turn mine until it fires, just for checking of spark etc.
2. Putting water on muffs without the engine running will NOT blow anything. And even if something did get 'blown', the bellhousing does not have to be removed. $1800, boy are you a soft touch!
3. Running water through the engine without it running will NOT put water into the cylinder unless there is a serious problem with manifolds/elbows. How do you think workshops 'bench run' engines? They don't install them in a boat and take it down the river. They set them up on a test stand and shove water up the inlet hose. It just runs through the engine and flows out of the exhaust system. Done it many times myself. I run engines in the boat without a leg by pushing a water hose into the water tube in the bell housing and turning the water on.... NEVER had water in a cylinder yet and I never will (the afore mentioned problems aside).
4. Always having someone standing at the tap to turn the water off immediately the engine stops. Completely unnecessary... Wasting the other persons time. Stop it!

Ok... My rant over... See ya guys... .:D:D:D
