This is my second boat, my first was when I was young and didn't care to take care of the boat. Now I'm older and care where my money goes, I need to know what the best way to winterize my boat myself. My boat(89-regal runabout) stays in my garage, so any suggestions on how to winterize and change the oil would help.

I have a Mercruiser 4.3L V6 with Alpha one outdrive.
Are you supposed to run Antifreeze thru the motor before storing for winter?

I keep my boat outback behind my shed. In the pat I have had someone come and do the winterizing for me. I am a winterizing virgin.

Any input would be gr8.

Thanks

John Galt

Re: Winterizing Questions???????

BPG,

thanks for the help. Can you indulge me a minute more?

I bought my boat used and do not have the manuals that came with it.
It is a 1989 Celebrity 181. Is there any good publications that show me step by step the winterizing process? Specifically the location of the drain plugs.

I am very handy but need a guide to make certain I am doing this correctly.

As you may have guessed I am also Frugal (i.e. cheep). The wat $250.00 to do this at the local dealers.

John Galt

JG,
My marina also wants $250.00. As a going price it is still too high.

I purchased my boat used just a month ago and have bought the manuals off of the Mercury Marine site.

https://appcenter.mercurymarine.com/litreq/orderForm.jsp?type=mc

Just put in the correct information and tell them which manual you want and they will send it. LOTS AND LOTS of info in the books. They are about $36.00 bucks each but well worth it. I ordered the engine manual and the sterndrive manual. With these you could just about build a motor from scratch.
P.S. Your gonna love this web site. If your looking for a great wealth of knowledge... you found it. Let me give a plug to a couple of members who helped me. Thanks Crazy Charlie and tommays
BPG
