Sorry for putting this in General Forum but I'm working on the boat as I type.

I am winterizing my 1983 120 hp I/O Mercruiser and want to change my gear drive oil but can't find a drain or hole to put it in.

Can anyone tell me where the drain and fill hole are? Does it use engine oil from the motor?

Thanks!

Barry

Re: Winterizing (Wher's My Gear Oil Drain - Mercruiser)?

Barry, I have a '68 120 that may have a newer lower unit. My upper unit has both a fill and a vent screw (fill is on port side). These are just below the top cap and are marked on the casting. My lower unit should have a fill and vent screw but only has the fill screw. The lower unit vent screw is on the port side, leading edge, just under the buldge for the prop gears. I think your "newer" OD will have the vent and drain/fill on the port side.
Hope this helps,
Kach
