Winterizing

So this was my first year winterizing the boat - Yamaha OB 225hp Saltwater Series with EFI

Took it to service center for winterizing a bit earlier that I wanted to because I had some vacation plans so with that being said there was still approximately 30 gallons of gas in tank.

Every time I added gas I treated with Startron and Yamaha Ring Free

For some reason it just popped into my head...... should I of added anything else to the tank to help stabalize the fuel for the winter?

That's about all you can do.

I'm always looking for a station that sells 100% gasoline for winters, however.

I usualy use a fuel stabilizer over the winter. I do not know if either of your additives have that property.

IMHO, the Startron is snake oil, as I have a real hard time believing it's advertising. Although Hitler always said a big lie is more beliveable than a small lie. That would appear to be Startron's advertising strategy. Ring-free may have some value.

I use startron and ringfree every time with my 150 Yam and knock wood have had no fuel problems, unlike most people around here who don't do anything.

I assume you also have a water seperator.

I don't know how long you plan to leave the boat idle but a few months shouldn't hurt (unless you started with gas already 8 months old?)

If you are worried about it, in the spring before first run, pump a little gas out the tank, not through the seperator, into a clear jar and examine it for funkiness. Some boat shops do a spring start-up and if that's your route ask them to do it. You need to know if you have phase seperation before cranking it through.

Your boat and motor don't require anything for the winter as far as temperature is concerned; people fog motors and stabilize fuel for the down time. Store it plug out, of course, and motor down if outside and subject to freezing.

It won't hurt to add a couple more ounces of startron; can't say it will help though.
