Hi, I recently rebuild the carbs on my 1983 Merc 50hp and disassembled everything and all the wire connections, I took pictures and followed the diagram to wire it all back but I have a single black wire coming out of the main engine harness that seems to run the the black 1.5" long cylinder that is mounted on the right side of the front plate of the motor. The wire length seems to reach that but I am assuming an all black wire is a ground so that would not work on that cylinder. Can anyone please tell me where this wire belongs as I will be going to the lake on Tuesday. Also, I talked to a marine place that told me the reason my motor is bogging out at wot is probably the ignition module? If I am going at WOT it will last for about 5 minutes when warmed up and then it bogs down and I can run it more than 1/4 throttle or it dies. Can someone please tell me how to diagnose this "ignition module" and tell me what this guy is talking about. Thanks alot for your help!

Post a pic of that wire. Best way to check for a ignition problem is to run it on the trailer till it fails ,then attach timing light or air gap tester to spark plug wires to see if you have lost spark. If that is the problem you can then test it to see if its a stator, trigger or switch box problem...

Ok I posted up the pictures, you can see the black wire kind of hanging to the side. Also while your looking can you tell me if I have that starter wire and red wire on that starter solenoid deal set up correct? Thank you!

That a ground wire and usually goes under the bolt on that holds solenoid in place and later models it attachs with the ground at starter....

Anyone? Does the yellow wire go on the left or right side? And which side do the two red wires go to? Thank you

I think I have a selco manual that covers your motor I need the serial number of your motor.nevermind,I found your serial number in one of your other post.
I have the diagram.
Your pictures are too close for me to describe.Take some more pictures and post, then I can hook you up.
Your diagram does not show a module,it shows a rectifer if thats what you were talking about, unless you or someone else added the module
