One last VERY important question (I hope it's the last one): I rebuilt the gear box my 1962 40 H.P. Lark 4 Evinrude, model # 35933, electric shift gears. I have the electric wires for the electro magnets routed up inside the exhaust leg of the motor like it was before I took the motor apart. My problem/question is this: When the wires exit the exhaust leg they go through a little cover with a tube on it, then they continue up the outside of the exhaust leg between the exhaust leg and the exhaust leg cover. (The cover also has a little access panel on it right where the wires exit the exhaust leg). I do not remember any type of gasket or seal around the wires to prevent water from going into the exhaust leg at the point where the wires exit the exhaust leg? I do not think the exhaust leg is water tight, is it? Will water hurt anything if it gets into the inside of the exhaust leg where the wires exit the leg? I need to know this before I put the boat in the water tomorrow morning. I did put some silicone sealer around the wires just in case, but it will probably eventually deterioorate anyway (soon) with the heat from the exhaust. Cannot tell looking in my book if there is a seal at the location or not.
