Wire sleeving for heat protection

I have a 1987 Evinrude 90HP, V4, which over-heated and blew a head gasket with the previous owner. I replaced the head gasket, thermostats, did the waterpump+seals, etc., and my question is in regards to the melted sleeving on some of the wiring due to that overheat.

The conductors are fine, not damaged, but the sleeving is pretty toasted and melted wherever it was in contact with the cylinder head or water cover. Is there some insulating wrap that could be used to re-insulate the wiring? I don't want to cut and splice wires just to get a sleeve over them, and wondered if there's a type of heat-resistant wrap somebody has used or knows of?

thanks

They do make a wrap type of heat resistant tape, I think the last time I got it from my local auto parts store, I think it's made by 3M.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm gonna try the self-fusing silicone tape. It's supposed to be heat resistant, and will also insulate the conductors inside.

Yea, that sounds right, I was going to look at the package the next time I was in the shop but forgot all about it.

Wy not price out a new wiring harness? It may be avail on the web, and reasonably priced and should look much nicer, be much more water resistant and will be color coded.

You can get flexible plastic split looms at any a auto parts store for about $7(roll). i/d sizes of 1/4"-2" and up. It is split lengthwise, so no cutting of wires is needed

Also protects from vibration. Use it often in the shop, especially when running thermostat wires, water pressure tubing, etc..

It will do exactly what you are looking for.
