Unsure if it is or not, but Have you since wired it correctly? I know I saw a schematic on here during a search. I would make sure to do that then see if it was still not working. I would think that you likely didnt do anything at all in the way of damage...Let me ask you this...did you just buy this outboard or boat and the seller say all you need is this? LOL..or let it sit for awhile and now your trying to get it to run?

Re: wired my 87 50hp force wrong

Banditz, I just purchased an 88 50hp Force and being new to outboards, I'd love to see a schematic to wire it up properly so I don't blow something.

Yes, *I* did just buy this (had a 28hp tiller previously), so no experience hooking them up correctly. But willing to learn as I go.

Do you remember where you may have seen it or what the thread may have been called so I can try to search for it.

Thanks in advance.

I did find this discussion though: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=152097&highlight=schematic+50hp+Force

SWEET! Thank you very much. Just bought a manual of wiring for this and my mercruiser (all in one manual, that'll be handy too). I'll be able to try to start it tomorrow though with these instead of having to wait for it to arrive!

Much appreciated.

Re: wired my 87 50hp force wrong

Just trying to use the diagrams given to me and have a couple of questions before I try to get this thing started.

I have a control that has one set of wires (4) which I am assuming goes to the dash items. The other set of wires (10) I am trying to hook up to the motor. I think most are matching colors, but I have 4 colors left over (not all the same colors as those on the other set). I've included a few pictures of what we have and would love help determining if things are hooked up correctly (enough) to try to get it started and running.

Thanks in advance.

Todd

Re: wired my 87 50hp force wrong

i have since wired it up correctly, but it has weak spark on both cyilinders. i bought it in running condition in the fall.

i think i have coil problems but i cant figure it out... i have 380vac at the stator and the trigger seems to be working properly. but the spark isnt strong enoughf to spark using a spark plug. but it will spark from the spark plug lead to ground. how do i check coils? does anyone know what resistance figures between leads should be? ie plug wire to ground or blue wire to spark plug wire?

any help would be appreciated.

blue stator to coil one blue wire
blue stator to coil two blue wire
triggers wires to coil trigger wires
brown to kill switch.

is this wright?

Scooterca, I don't have anything to offer as to your wiring, other than I can take pics of my 1987 Force 50 if you need any.

However, do you have a kill switch on the throttle control? Do you happen to know how it is wired if you do?

Thanks!
