Wireless non connect

Thinkpad lap top, wireless LAN PC card. Card is connecting and communicating with wireless server, but Explorer or Firefox will not recognize the connection, shows unable to connect/page not available.
Do not have E-mail set up on laptop yet.
Have been able to get it to connect two times but unable to get it to repeat. What am I overlooking?

What is the year and horsepower. Scratch that. What is the operating system.

You didn't mention if you have cable or DSL service. Have you logged into the router and set it up for the type of service you subscribe to?

Had a similar problem. Turned out, my PC was trying to communicate on the ethernet port rather than the wireless card. I disabled the ethernet to correct it.

I know, not enuff info to start. My fault.

Cable, wireless router set up and working flawless on PC with XP.

When try to get laptop on, status shows it connected and communicating with router, but something is preventing Firefox or Explorer from seeing it.

Be sure DHCP is enabled (usually it is by default) in router.

In W98, click Start,Run, type in Command, click Enter
At Dos window, type ipconfig
Check to be sure your wireless adaptor has an IP address issued by router (typically 192.168.1.xxx) where xxx= 100==>150

Ping router:
Type Ping 192.168.1.1 (Typically 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1 etc)
You should get replies from router..

BTW, disable any Wep or WPA setting until you verify proper functioning of connection. Disable any MAC address filtering if you have it enabled until you get things going.

After you can connect , then go back and add the WEP -WPA etc...

Try ipconfig /renew_all
or winipcfg

OK, got it going by enabling all the internet security items. Now have to go back and see which one and what it means to leave them on.
