I have 96 75hp Force on my 96 nitro
There is a pack of wires behind the voltage regulator, they do not come directly from the regulator. I believe they run to the 3 democratic boxes. They are all burnt and melted. What would cause this?

Also there is a red wire that comes from the regulator. When I plug and unplug that snap connector it sounds like it click or Sparks and appears to be shorted? Is this all connected?

1. Yes, Sounds like your voltage regulator is bad and burning things.
2. Make sure no wires are grounded out too. Check every inch of all wires.

The red wire has electricity in it all the time as it is the charging wire connected directly to the battery by the positive cable. What are democratic boxes and has your motor ever overheated. How are the wires coming out of the rectifier if they are not melted it will probably not be your problem.

Democratic boxes???Guess you mean coils.
The blackened connectors is a Mercury screwup.
When you energize the ignition electricity runs through the wiring system. The connectors arch and heat up and turn black.
They wouldn't do that if they were wired direct.
If the regulator is melted then it might be going but the black connectors is a normal thing for Mercury

Sorry.. no Democratic boxes.. CDM boxes.. I was typing it in on the iPhone so I'll blame auto correct for it.

Yes the red wire is mostly like powered directly from the battery. The other wires coming out of the voltage regulator look fine. I think its 2 yellows and a gray. Its the wire behind those running to the 3 CDM boxes that are fried or melting.
