I was out on the water today and my barrier on the side of the motor rested against the exhaust manifold and started a fire. During the small flames it melted all of my wires on the alternator. How do I wire it up again so I can get some more Labor Day weekened boating? Its a 1987 Citation with a 4.3L Merc. Thanks.

Re: wiring an alternator?

my first concern would be that the exhaust manifold should not even get hot enough that you can touch it with bare hands mabey 200 degrees if it is hot enough to start a fire you have a water flow problem in the motor and useing the boat at all untill it is fixed is very dangerous

you are very luckey that the small fire did not turn into a major weekend news story please find out why it is so hot before useing the boat

tommays

I agree. You have more problems than just a few burned wires. Find the cause and all that went bad when the wires shorted out.
Forget the weekend, you have serious problems.
