Maybe I'm over thinking this, but, I'm having a problem coming up with how to connect my FishFinder and GPS to my battery. The GPS is a hand-held unit that has a "cigarette lighter" type power cord....I do have a 12volt outlet for it.....my FF, I want to put an in-line fuse (1amp) on it. How do I make the necessary connections to a single battery??? BTW....this is for a small kayak so the wiring/connections need to be as simple as possible. I've attached a crude illustration of what I've got here....hope I'm explaining it clearly.....thanks in advance for any input.

Your diagram is correct. Red wires to the POS terminal of the battery. Black wires to the NEG terminal of the battery. The fuse merely goes in-line with the red wire from the fish finder to the battery.

Be careful about running 12v to your GPS, most hand held units operate on 3 volts, and the cigarette lighter adapter that came with it has an internal resister, you can't just use any cigarette adapter nor hook up to direct 12v supply.
You probably already know this if you bought the GPS new, but thought I would mention it just in case.

I agree...he has it right.

BUT...I question the use of a 1 amp fuse, though. Most of these units only require a 3 amp.

Am I wrong...?

Well...the manual that came with my FF said to use a 1 amp fuse, I thought it was a bit low, but, that's what it says.
But my question is still unanswered.....I'm looking for how to hook-up the FF with the 12 volt outlet on the same circuit. If it were a bigger boat, a bus terminal would solve the problem.......would a Y or 3 way crimp connector work? As long as the FF wire is spliced into the battery leeds BEFORE the 12 volt outlet?? I dunno....just one of the ideas I've come up with.

No reason that I can see, for not tapping into the 12 volt socket circuit...before the outlet. No different than running a seperate postive wire back to the battery!

You actually end up with double protection...the inline fuse, and the 12 volt outlet fuse (assuming that there is a blade fuse for the outlet).
