None of the wiring diagrams in my Seloc manual matches that of my 87 60hp vro. At the electrical bus on the starboard side there are more wires than in the seloc manual.

In addition to the 2 yel stator wires, 2 yel rectifier, 1 gry, and red. I have two purple (ignition switch to 12V), why are there two? Where do they connect. Also a red/pur is over there.( i think an additional red as well). What is the real way?

If possible start with the wire setup from the top down. Numbering 1 as the top screw and work your way down. Saying what colors and what number?

This would be huge, thanks.

-andy

Andy

Maybe first it would help if I knew what you were doing or trying to fix.

Seloc is not my manual of choice, but we have to work with what you have.

By bus do you mean a terminal strip ? I take a bus to work sometimes. On the strip, just match the colors togeather, using the 'chart' on the cover.

I know the 'extra' purple wire you mean.It was added when the VRO Pump was replaced and updated. It won't even show in the OMC manual,it's in the VRO pump installation manual.

If things are working well .. don't try to stop them

DHP

Another name for a terminal strip is called a bus bar. But anyways... I just got the boat for free because the guy who gave it to me said it was crap a doesn't run anymore.

Well... he had sour fuel, dead battery, ungrounded coils. I ran some new fuel with a can of seafoam and she fired right up. This thing probably wasn't decarbed in years, carbs were probably not clean either. Not she runs superb. However his battery was dead because the rectifier was blown. I think he knew something was wrong, because he played around with the wiring at the terminal strip. I will follow the color chart.

What do I do with the extra purple and red.

thanks-
andy

I may be able to help you. I have an OMC manual that covers '86 60 to 115 hp. It has wiring diagrams for all. They're big (poster size) but there may be a way to get you a copy of it. If any of the real mechanics know if there's no change in wiring between your '87 and '86 then we're set. I'll check back later.

Andy.... No offense intended but in the outboard line, it's a Terminal Strip. Good idea to use that term in any future listings so that we know what is being spoken of.

From the top down on the terminal strip, the wireas are:

1 - Yellow (Stator and Rectifier)

2 - Gray (Tachometer Sensor Lead With Jumper To 3)

3 - Yellow/Gray (Stator and Rectifier)

4 - Red (12 Volts And Rectifier With Jumper To 5)

5 - Empty (12 Volts For Future Use)

6 - Red/Purple (12 Volts With Jumper To 7)

7 - Purple (12 Volts)

Number 4 and 5 are not fused. Number 6 and 7 are fused.

Originally 5, 6, and 7 are not used. Leave them as you see it above. If an accessory is added whereas those terminals are to be used, the accessory instructions will advise you.
