wiring diagram for '73 johnson 50hp switch

After breaking my only key and not being able to find one, I removed the switch for replacement. After 2 weeks my memory failed. I need the diagram to rewire the switch. Any help will be greatly appreciated.<br /><br />Cody Mac

I belive there is a web site you can go to and get the info. Can't think of it right know, but if you plan on keeping the motor I would go ahead and get a manual, it will have wiring schematics and everything you need to know.

Welcome to iboats Cody!<br /><br />See if we can help.<br /><br />Black wires will go to one of the terminals marked "M"><br /><br />Black w/yellow stripe will go to the other "M" terminal.<br /><br />Purple wires go to the "A" terminal (accessories)<br /><br />White wire to the "S" terminal. (start)<br /><br />Red w/purple stripe to the "B" terminal (battery)<br /><br />That sound about right?

Cody and OBJ,<br /><br />The white might be yellow/red if a neutral start switch is in use on controls. Don't think there is a choke but if so it should be purple w/white stripe wire and goes to "C" Terminal. Dead on OBJ!<br /><br />Good Luck

Back then they used white as the wire to the solenoid. The choke switch was a separate switch.

OBJ, Your advice was right on. I even found learned why the electric choke does not work. Thank you very much for your time and expertise.<br /><br />Cody Mac

1984 Johnson 50 hp E508EL CRM . below the key that the PO said a button had to be held in to start the motor. I did that and it started right up. However when I let go it stops. I have no wire diagrahm. Is this a kill switch that may be broken?? or mabey a clip that holds it in thats missing??? I am restoring a 1978 16 ft Supersport and will reinstall the motor in a week or two.
