Wiring/fuse board

The fuse board under the CC on my old boat has copper screw connection on the top of the board, just above the fuse link and below the fuse. Whenever I attach the pos. and neg. wires to any of these three screws, the electronics work. It even works without a fuse in the link. This seems wrong to me. Could it be wired incorrectly? I always thought that if you wired the screw just above and below the fuse, you were utilizing the fuse and if you attached the wires to the top and bottom of the board, you bypassed the fuse?????????????

It sounds like something is not wired right. Take any piece of equipment. The ground for it should go straight to ground. The positive should go thru the fuse. I have seen some fuse blocks that have a common input. For instance all the tops or bottoms are tied together. Then the other end of each fuse would go to a piece of equipment. Hope that helps.

yeah IBN is tellin' right..basicly the ground should never be attached to the fuse block unless it's the kind ( rare ) that has ports for the grounds an the big/fat/ main ground wire is also landed there,also..<br /><br />usaully,, the top screws are hot by way of the big/fat/main hot wire.. an the bottom screws are only hot via the fuses..
