Looked at all wiring today because have been having ignition issues. Found cracked wires coming from alternator to power and alt to coil and even an exposed corroded soto on red wire from alt. Found a lot of cracks on a lot of different wires under dash to. Including ignition wires which were cracked in numerous places. So looks like a total rewire. Now do I have to do each wire one by one or can I buy a harness with the wires already ready to go. What is the simplist way to go about this without breaking the bank. Any help please. Or ideas. Thanks.

if merc still makes a wire harness for that engine, it would probably be more expensive than buying the wire and doing it yourself, especially considering you need to wire up to the dash too

the wires are color coded and it would be in your best interest to follow BIA/NMMA wire color standards when re-wiring - better for troubleshooting in the future

i have worked on boats where some genuis rewired and used all white!
