hi guys. i just got a force engine because my johnson died on my 96 seaswirl open bow 17.5 footer. the people who installed it just hooked up the power to the motor and new control box.I have a new ignition on the control box so the old ignition on the dash does nothing anymore! the problem is that key turned on the guages!now when i turn the key on the dash my fuel guage and voltage guage does nothing and the fuel guage on the tank under the floor is stuck at full. The marina left the wiring harnesses that plugged into the johnson motor just lying there and didnt hook any of the wires back up!my question is does anyone know what wire or wires i need to hook back up to get power to the guages and vhf and cd player? thanx alot

Re: wiring harness question

Every boat is different as far as wiring goes. However, there probably is a wire coming off that old ignition switch's "A" or "I" terminal (whichever one it has). That wire would be the one feeding the guages. You will have to disconnect that wire from the old switch and extend it to your new switch's similar terminal.

If you paid for the install, I would bring it back to be completed. Leaving the old stuff behind and features inoperable is not acceptable in my book.

Re: wiring harness question

ive had the new motor a week and have had so many little problems due to the marinas install that we have decided they are way to incompetent to bring my boat back there. for instance today we wanted to wake board but the new controls were attached with 1" screws and theres about 1.5" of padding before wood so the controls came right off of the boat. there is an exhaust leak in the lower area under the power head so they said it would take longer due to fixing that. they cut a hole in the cowl in front of the top carb and glued a bilge vent over that then glued a pvc coupler between the carb and vent. the list goes on.we were thinking to send a certified letter tommorrow stating our dissatisfaction and possible intent to go to small claims court. do you think we have a case???

Re: wiring harness question

Make a complete itemized list
include pictures
ask nicely for immediate satisfaction
If not satisfied, inform them of your intent for small claims
Include the local better business bureau and word of mouth to every boat owner you know
Any one of the things you mentioned would of had me back there pronto
Good luck

That "fix" for the exhaust leak is outrageous! And the control falling off the boat could kill somebody. That guy should be shut down.

total agreement, "nicely" request compensation to have it fixed correctly. when you get the compensation, tell everyone one you see about the guys reputation.

somehow they had a banner outside that says"rated number 1 in service"! i think they rated themselves or they are real good at winterizing.
