Im putting a 93 Johnson 115hp on my boat and the person I bought the boat from gave me a wiring nightmare. Now Ive found where most of the wires go, but when looking at my tach, rpm and fuel gauges they dont seem wired right. From what Ive seen before do these gauges run in a series as per one power and one ground for all three coming off the ignition switch. Any info will be a great help.

Re: Wiring help

Yes, but the correct term is they are wired in parallel, not series. But I assume that's what you mean.

Re: Wiring help

while were on the subjects of gauges I have a 1977 ranger with a 1972-85 hp rude. I been working on it and am just about ready to put it in the water. It used to have a 115 merc. When i hook up the tac will i have a problem?

Re: Wiring help

yes the back setting will have to be adjusted, you were running a I- 6 now a V-4. so the setting has to be changed, not knowing the tach, do not what to set it on.

Re: Wiring help

For the Tachometer, Positive purple, negative black are off the ignition switch.

Gray signal is off the main harness.

Blue lighting is off your gauge light switch, usually in parallel with all the other gauge lights.

Faria, Teleflex and OMC/BRP Tachs use 6P if there is a dial on the tach.

Wiring diagram is the same as the one shown here: "http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/ignitionSwitch.html"

Re: Wiring help

My response was in re: dcata the 93 115. I don't know about the 1972 wiring.
