hi, i have a 76 merc 500 thunderbolt and was wondering if i change the internal wiring harness for the motor,. the stator , and the trigger, will i have taken care of all the wires in the motor?? my wires are brittle and the insulation is crumbling. also the small wire that goes to the starter soleniod resembles rope more than it does wire due to green corrosion. can this wire still possibly transmit current?? anyone else been down this road??

Re: wiring help????

A common problem with that vintage engines and the harness can be replaced, the Mercury harnesses are usually less money than CDI so check prices before you buy either. I think the wire to the solenoid your talking about is the ground and never was insulated to begin with.
