Wiring Mercruiser starter/solenoid

I have a '80 305 mercruiser and I am replacing the starter. Trouble is, where do the wires connect to the solenoid? There are two reds, one yellow, and one black.

I'm pretty sure the two reds connect to the large post in the middle but where do the yellow and black wires connect?

Any help would be more than greatly appreciated!

The 2 reds go on terminal A, the yellow (should be yellow/red stripe) goes on terminal B..
Black ????????? Doesn't go on the starter terminals.
Are you sure it's black? Not just a black cover over a red or orange wire? What size is the wire?
I gues it could be a ground that someone put under a starter bolt, not the way it should be, but wouldn't surpise me anymore.

Don I responded to his question in the another post before you put it here... From the context of the other post I took it that he was referring to the slave solenoid. As I read it here he says starter solenoid...

I guess Todd can clarify which one he means. (If he is talking about the slave solenoid it would explain the ground wire).

Just seen the other thread. Not sure where the post went, Wasn't me.
Anyway, assuming it was the slave solenoid. It goes like this.
B on the slave solenoid goes to B on the starter solenoid.

PS: I have posts disappear every now and again too. Just goes off into no-where-land.

Thanks for the AWESOME info, guys! I was actually talking about the starter solenoid and not the slave but the info is exactly what I needed. The black wire is a mystery to me, then. I traced the black wire and it is grounded on the bracket that holds the throttle cable, directly behind the carb. I will have to hook up the starter and see what happens.

Thanks again!

If it's the one I think it is, that wire should be grounded to the inner transom plate.
