Hey all,

I posted before but that was a while back, and I'm having issues. I'm trying to hook up my '82 Mercury 150hp V6 Black Max. I have the wiring Harness, which has wires of the following colors: Red, Black, Purple, Brown, Gray, Yellow/Red, Yellow/Black, Black/Yellow. I know what the standard colors of these wires on an outboard mean, but I'm messing up in actually hooking it up. Here is what else I have, I have two yellow wires and an orange wire coming from the throttle control box, I think the two yellows are two ends of the Neutral start switch, I don't know what the orange goes to. And last but not least, I have a new Sea Dog Line, 3 position push to choke key switch, which has a Red, Black, Purple, Yellow/Red, Yellow/Black, and Black Yellow.

I have tried hooking the corresponding colors from wiring harness directly to the key switch, and have also tried the same, but with the Yellow/Red from the wiring harness going to one of the Yellow wires on the neutral start switch, and the other yellow going to the yellow/red on the key switch. No matter how I hook it up though, It's like it has no power at all. Tested the battery and it's fully charged, I know the motor works great, so please tell me what I'm doing wrong. I'll post some pics of what I have below.

Re: Wiring my '82 Mercury O/B

I was just wiring up an old merc thunderbolt last night and trying to wire up a different set of controls that were merc and none of the colors matched or anything it was a total nightmare. I had to completly disregard any colored wires what so ever and pull out the old multimeter but my biggest help was searching online and finding the wiring schematics, you can find really good ones that are year specific and easy to read it took a few hrs and some hairpulling but it worked

Re: Wiring my '82 Mercury O/B

Thanks for the tip. So I narrowed it down, I'm not getting ANY power to my wiring harness for some reason. I have the battery hooked up, and if I put positive of battery straight to starter, motor tries to fire up, so I know it's not the battery, anyone have any clue why I wouldn't be getting power to my wiring harness now??

Nevermind, I found a fuse that I didnt know existed, and it was blown. Problem solved.
