I just got this merc. This motor will be used for a Search & Rescue boat We are all Volunteer.
Here it goes. There ate 2 wires that come off the trim pump one is brown wire stripe. I think the other wire is black and it's ground, it's connected. now there are 4 or 5 wires that comes from the control shifter and then the main wiring harness that plugs in. I don't know where the colored go is there a picture or a wiring diagram I can get for this?
The trim wont go up and I am only getting spark on one half of the 6 cylinders. Any help would help us.

I have jumped the tilt from the solenoid motor works but don't put up the tilt and no clicking from the solenoid.
Does it half to do with that wire not being hooked up on the tilt?
Does the spark have to do with the wires not being hooked up? ( Main harness is hooked up)

Brown/White stripe is trim sender to trim gauge, not needed for operation.

There are 2 types of trim pumps, 2-wire (usually a replacement pump) and 3-wire (in 1987 this was standard)
2-wire pump has 2 wires from the pump going to several relays. To test pump, connect + to one wire, - to the other, pump shoudl run either up or down. Reverse the + and - and the pump should run the other way.

3- wire pump has Black (always ground), Blue (+ here trims UP) and Green (+here trims Down)

For rest of wires, see here..http://www.maxrules.com/fixmercwiringcodes.html
