I have having some ground problems I think. I just replaced the rectifier and stator and now am not getting anything up to the tach. We have made sure everything is wired right. I can test the three wires and everything is good except from the grey tach wire. we also have found that when the key is off that gray wire in the remote control box is like a direct ground, but as soon as you turn the key on it starts loosing the ground ( with the engine not running) like its not ground good. Could this be my problem or what could it be?

The Grey tach wire should not be in any of the key-switch connections. Use an ohm-meter and search for a short.

Years ago my tach wire at the control box went bad. Was open, so the tach had no signal. I ran a new wire from the powerhead terminal strip up to the tach at the dash. Cured the problem and was easier than trying to find the problem with the original wire.

Ok I think we have narrowed it down to maybe another bad rectifier. Is there a definite way to test a rectifier?

Try diconnecting your grey tach wire at the terminal and touch it to either the grey and yellow or yellow wire terminal. if your tach now works your reg/rect is bad. also another clue would be no charging or overcharging

Sure Rectifier tests are pretty easy if you have an analog ohm meter. A rectifier has 4 diodes arranged in a rectangle (bridge). Do a search on it.
