Hi All,

I have a 70HP Evinrude ex RNLI engine E70RNLIB.
This came on a boat that had a cheap ignition unit and cheap remote control unit attached to the engine.

I have purchase a BRP/OMC side mount control unit with ignition built in and I am trying to connect this to the engine.

The wiring coming from the engine to the old ignition had the following wires:

Purple
Purple/Red
Purple/White
Black/Yellow
Red/Yellow

Black
Grey.................................. was not connected to anything

The OMC Control has the following wires:

Purple
Purple/Red
Purple/White
Black/Yellow
Red/Yellow

Black/White

Pairing these by colour leaves me with:
1. a grey wire coming from the engine with no corresponding wire (tachometer possibly)
2. a Black wire coming from engine

3. a Black/White coming from the remote control.

I tried pairing the Black with the Black/White but the engine does not fire. Fly Wheel turns but it sounds like there's no spark.

Leaving the Black and Black White unconnected gives the same scenario.

Have I the wiring incorrect ? or is my problem something else like a blown fuse ?

Can anybody point me in the right direction, Please.

Regards

Re: Wiring Remote Control to Evinrude

Anybody ?

I think the wiring harness coming from the engine is the old OMC type. It is joined to the engine with a big red rubber plug/socket.

The controller (5006180) wiring is set up with a plug connector to join the harness.

But my harness does not have the corresponding socket on the harness (just loose wiring).

The wires all correspond except a black and white one from the controller which has no matching wire on the harness.

Engine has power getting ti it, but doesn't sound like there a spark.

Sorted.
Don't anybody waste their time on this.

Black wire paired with Black white.

The engine wasn't firing because I had flooded it, cleaned spark plugs and it's now running.
