Good deal Pat, you fascist you. Looks like a regular tashmajal you'll be staying at. Our rifle season starts the monday after thanksgiving. Didnt score in archery season so I scheduled the first two days to gun hunt. I'll stay local in the shotgun area. The remington 1100 with 2 3/4 slug will do nicely. I passed on a few decent bucks in archery waiting for a crack at a nice buck I have been watching. I'll have a bit more range with the gun.

Good luck Pat and kill a bigun.

Best to you as well Flahthead. Hope to see great buck first, then take him. Since I don't bow hunt, I must hope for the best during gun season.

BTW, recall that tensioner shoe deal I answered with as much PC as I could some time ago is indeed a concern. Remember that from way back when? I can speak to that now.

Re: Wisconsin Deer Gun Hunt

Hey everyone GOOD LUCK.

Our season started this past Saturday with "new" regulations in place. A buck has to have 3 points or more....no does and no spikes. Well as luck would have it my crew of 5 we saw a total of about 17 deer in 4 days of hard hunting and two were spikes.... not a shot was fired.

Yesterday morning I was sitting and a big animal was coming my way and sure enough a 500-600 lb cow moose was traveling through the woods.

The neighboring camp was visited by a pair of bears at midnight and the bears promptly demonstrated that coleman coolers are no match for a bear. The bear were scared off (after a warning shot but not hit).

Deer camp, good food, great friends, cards, beer, and we really rough it... gas lights, running water (with a water heater), wood stove, oh a generator for the color tv so we can watch the late football games it just worth it.

Our gun season started in late Oct. and goes until the first sunday in Dec. I have only been out three times for only an hour or so each time. I seen a crotch horn in my back yard but the deer are getting few and far between around here.

Hey PJC - where is your cottage? Presumably "up north" since everyone in Wisconsin goes "up north"

Sean

In my county in Virginia the limit is: "The bag limit for deer for all hunters shall be two a day, six a license year, three of which must be antlerless." Bonus tags are available

Rifle season lasts from this 11/19 to January 7.

Typical for an area with too many deer.

Jinx

Re: Wisconsin Deer Gun Hunt

The deer seem to be getting a bit more scarce around here, also. PA went to a QDM system and they want us to shoot about as many does as we can, but no bucks unless they have 3 points or more on 1 side.

The second year we saw a lot of buck, nice buck, but it seems to be declining a bit. Used to see 50 deer a day, now we are seeing 5 - 10 deer per day.

Am looking forward to the 28th. Have most of the first week "off" and a good portion of the second week. It should be a fun time regardless of what we see. After all, I use my boat more in those 2 weeks then I do at any other time of the year! It is so much fun doing 40mph in a bass boat with no protection from the wind in sub-freezing temps! Now that is boating at its finest!

By the way, I have 3 doe tags and 1 buck tag - should end up with some meat in the deep freeze!

Re: Wisconsin Deer Gun Hunt

me and my brother jim took my two boys out on sunday afternoon....craig is 6 and went with uncle jim and we got in the woods at 3....at 4 oclock they took down a 4 pointer...then just before dark me and my 8 yr old son colin took down a spike horn that had a busted horn on one side that was a short stub and the other horn was about 7 inches and wrapped down around its face...this is a day i will never forget....hunting with your kids is better than hunting for your kids.....I wish everyone good luck....Nick.

Nice rack, Pat! ;) :p

Congrats, adn looks like some good eating there.

Congrats to dsrchamp also - way to take the kids hunting! Great way to build memories and continue the sport.

My 4 year old informed me yesterday that she was too young to go hunting with me, but she wanted to help me butcher whatever deer I shot! The things this girl comes up with.
