I am kicking my self and laughing about it after this post. I have been looking for an issue like mine when I came across this thread. I get to the part here where you say "...my OMC handle pulls out away from the bulkhead." I smack myself and say I knew it. I imediately go out and uncover the boat and check. Sure enough! I hook up the water to the ear muffs still on the I/O and it fires right up. I had even asked the person I bought this off of last month about cold starts and he said it wasn't needed. I knew that I didn't have a button or lever, and I have even had another boat in the past with this same type of starting control. Well I missed last night on the water, but I wont miss tonight. I'll chalk it up to a blonde moment while I continue to wait for my motor manual. I am just glad I don't have to pull the fuel filter to look for a clog.

Don't feel bad ,... this is where I learned where my warm up was on my OMC controls too...my old '73 Evinrude 85 control had a seperate lever for this....

What in the world does not being familiar with the starting procedure in most cases here when launching have to do with endangering anyone? Are you implying that all those here that related those stories are "ignorant or lazy" and that "MOST of the other boaters out there are inexperienced idiots"? I think you unfairly assume to know how qualified the other boaters are in this thread. For sure most here are educated in boating operation and safety or at least are attempting to do so. I find your remarks to be way over the top.

While I do agree the comment was a little overboard, I'm sure you've read all the SHT posts here about people that died because they couldn't get out of the way of a commercial boat/ship.

There are a lot of reasons you need to know how to start your boat quickly without incident. Its good to have respect and a healthy fear of the water.

I have a 77 omc and i have to pull out on the throttle lever to put it into warm up mode. When i pull out on the lever it turns the choke to a closed position, but if i pump the throttle more than half throttle it pops the choke bad to a open position. Just to see what you all think maybe something is wrong with mine and i should have another look at it.
