If I find that diode how do I test it? Scott said there is a diode test on a multimeter. Mine doe not have that. Can’t I do a resistance test on it? Is this a common problem? Would this cause me to lose power at the helm back in June? And what about the melted relay socket

Yes you can check it with just resistance. If you get zero ohms then its open and from your problem that is what the issue is

Yes, if the diode opens its like cutting the wire.

Or spend the $0.50 and simply replace the diode. Make sure to orient the diode properly

Ok. So I exposed the 1st diode coming from the alternator going to the fuel pump relay. What do I do? Just expose both end and do a continuity test? And where can I get diodes? I think the guy in the video said 12 volt 3 ohms

Put your meter on each side of the diode and measure resistance, being open it should read infinite resistance. A good diode will read low with leads on in one direction and by swapping leads it will read high

Could anyone advise what post on the alternator the wire would hook to?

Thanks alldodge. I have a slightly different configuration but more so needed which post on the alternator is hot while cranking. Just picked up this boat and the switch was never hooked up, the fuel ran on some homemade bogus wiring.

In this case, please start another thread with your issue and info on the motor and we can have a look
