I was just reading that story, before logging into the forums. Thankfully the boy was not seriously hurt.

I cannot believe he actually did it. It is not like it was a small boat in a cove, it was a huge tour boat. They just cannot turn around real easy.

This is exactly why I believe in "an eye for an eye". Figure someone should get to smack around, then throw the father off the bow of a boat. I would suggest the boat to be used be Miss Budwieser, traveling approx 200 mph.

AMAZING!!!!!! You think this kid is going to grow up with fond memories of dear ole dad? Maybe it is the way I was raised and/or the way my family is but I can not imagine doing something this stupid especially to kids.

I saw a television interview of the father. He was defensive, unapologetic and in my eyes nothing more than a abusive parent. They also showed a clip of the boat - it's got relatively high sides. Throwing a young child off a boat is not an act that would constitute any degree of fun in unsafe water trafficked by many boats.

I do hope he gets the book thrown at him. Keelhauling could be an appropriate punishment as the parent seems to believe water is an element of corporeal punishment.

Holy overreaction people. You are hearing only one side of what happened. According to the radio I was listening to today, he said he never hit his kid and they were just goofing around. There were other people on the boat near him who said he never hit his kid either. We really don't know what happened with the whole issue, maybe he's just trying to cover something up, who knows, but this is just one side of a story we are reading. The radio also said it was a cruise ship which to me imparts the mental image of a queen mary of the seas type huge cruise liner when it was just a small dinky tour boat.

I think if you throw your child overboard on a tour boat, playing or not, your freakin nuts. He tossed him over the bow, the child could of died. If the child died, slag, would you feel diffrent?

On the radio it said he grabbed his son and they jumped over the edge as if it was a dare or something, not that he threw them.

On the radio it said he grabbed his son and they jumped over the edge as if it was a dare or something, not that he threw them.

From CNN: "The father did jump in (after his son), but the crowd on the boat became angry when he was hitting the kid and became more angry when he threw him overboard," Amormino said. There were 85 people on the tour boat.

Honestly, what father would jeopardize the safety of their child this way? The kid is 7 yrs old and Newport Harbor has quite a few boats moving in and out. It is not some empty lake.
