I just got my boat yesterday and took it out on the water today. I had the old 90hp engine removed and put a 115hp on my 88 Glastron. No sooner than we got up to speed on the water the transmission cut out and the engine reved to full max. I right away put it in neutral and still the motor was reving high. I turned it of and restarted and it seemed to drop a little but not much. When I tried forward it felt in the gear shift like it was grinding, when I tried reverse the same happened.. Also there is no power, the max I could get is 2000 rpm's before all of this happened and it maybe did 20 tops. Any suggestions? I finally had to be towed back in, I tried looking at the shift linkage and could not figure it out. The motor is a 1975 Johnson 115hp motor, If there is any suggestions I would appreciate it, Maybe take it back to the marine and have them fix it, after all I paid 750.00 to swap out and they kept my old motor with a bad cylinder and the Power tilt and trim. I thought this was a good deal until I had to be towed back in.

Im not surprised it felt like it was grinding.....they dont like going into gear doing much above idle speed, that's why it wont......imagine what would happen on the water if it did, get the picture?......think of it as an inbuilt safety feature. ;)
