Wont idle in the water

As I mentioned in a previous post I recently bought an 86 Bayliner with a force 85 Hp outboard. When I bought it the guy hooked up the "ear muff" adaptor and ran it in his yard to show me how it works and it ran fine at idle.I took it to the river and when its in the water it wont idle. I have to start it in neutral with the handle pushed a little and then pop it up and into gear before it quits. Can I just turn the idle speed up somehow? Thanks Chris

on the top of this page you will see a red search. Click on that and type wont idle in the water. You will be shown different posts pertaining to this. Wish I could help more but as you read you will see there are numerous things that could be causing this. Here is a sample of one of the threads Wont idle in water

Thank you euro I will deffinately take a look at the search feature first from now on. That post you posted is the same problem as mine right down to the engine cover being off and it running great. Thanks again. Chris
