So fired up the boat with the muffs on and it runs great and engages both forward and reverse noproblem. Problem I am having is I tried to rev it up in neutral by holding this red switch on the shifter and it just engages into gear. Any ideas? Its OMC Cobra on a 87 chris craft

what do you mean by pull out the handle? my shifter says something about pull out for neutral but also has this red button under your finger. Any idea what that does?

Re: Wont rev in neutral

the red button for your finger is to shift fwd/neu/rev

you need to pull outward where the handle rotates to access the throttle only feature:

in the neutral position, grasp the larger circular area where the handle pivots with your left hand and pull towards the centerline of the boat

now with your right hand, depress the red button and push forward on the handle, this should allow you to "throttle only" while still in neutral

grab the lever with your left hand and tug it toward the seat, while you operate the lever with your right hand

p.s. revving it in neutral is not that great for it - that function is for fast idle - 1500 or so rpm
