wont run wide open

ok i was told to start from the start ok i got a 1981 johnson 15hp and water dont come out my pee hole very much but its got a hole lower down that water comes out when you hook it to a water hose the more you gas it the faster it comes out so about 2weeks ago it died on me and aint run full throttle since it will idle but thats it . today i took it out and it did open up for about 1 minute then it act like it is starveing for gas bought a new gas line and put it on there before i took it out the bubble is hard even when it dies if you put it on a hose it run wide open but i dont do that cause i was told that aint good on them i hope i made since here plus i did put a new impeller on it to. thanks johnny

Not knowing the recent run history of the engine in question,I'm inclined to lean toward fouled/restricted carburetor.A compression test would also be beneficial to rule out a scored cylinder.

how much compression should it have. its geting good fire thru the plugs

hopefully 100 psi + , and within 10% of each other. i agree with the carb diagnois. disassemble the carb, clean all orifices, both out with compressed air. reassemble with a new rebuild kit. kits are available in the iboats marine store. http://www.iboats.com/mall/partfind...gd_poid=109345&gd_row=26&session_id=126870220
