1989 Force 85....runs great BUT stuck in gear
The engine is on a 1989 Bayliner and runs absolutly great but when returning back to the dock,I couldnt get it to go back out of forward gear.It still starts and runs fine it just will not come out of gear. If I go into the reverse position, everything works as normal but still goes forward. Basicly it does nothing, or makes no sounds from forward to reverse.I did check the cables and all are hooked up and working......could it be stuck in gear? I havent done anything to it at all......where should I start?
This was one idea
It sounds like the linkages are moving as far as the neutral safety switch.
The next place to check is forward and just above the lower unit. This is where the shift lever comes out of the gear case. There is a coupler there with a cotter pin that goes through the shift rod. If this linkage came apart, you will not be able to shift.
My next question
If the cotter pin is broken, missing, what would I ask for at Merc shop?
