won't start,electricical ??

sometimes i turn the key and get nothing/also trim doesn't work either at this time. other times i get power to the gauges and i get the "BEEP" with the red lights on the gauge, turn the key to start...NOTHING everything goes dead. when i do get power to the gauges and the red start up lights go on...the trim works....turn that **** key...dead again. it starts every so often....but I'm afraid of getting stuck out there with my 82yr old dad. towing is big $$$$ the battery is ok...power to the electric panel is on....for the running lights and GPS and Fish finder...help....and Thanks

I would have to start with checking ALL the ground wires, including the battery cable at the battery AND at the engine. Remove them and clean them well. Also, check the inline fuse for corrosion which is located under the motor cowl.

Thanks everyone...sorry I didn't get the make,year,and model in the first thread...I found the problem..of all things it was a loose connection at the switch...When this boat was re-powered they left all the old wiring in it. I found 4 dead (not connected to anything) wires on the switch. It's working now and I'm back out fishing....Thanks again....
