Boat ran fine for about an hour, then it started bogging down and dying. I should have looked sooner, but I just kept restarting and chugging along until water started coming up through the floor. The hose from the water pump to the thermostat housing had a fresh 3"split in it and had filled the boat full of water. The water was about 1/3 up the motor.
So I builged it dry and duck taped the hell out of that hose (i know, i know, bad idea to try and run it). The temp gauge read nothing, but there was no smoke, steam, oder, alarm, and I could rest my hand on the manifold, so I figured it wasnt running hot. Water preasure was strong enough to spray form the edges of the duck tape I eased my way back to the ramp, but about half way there, it stopped and would not restart. Seems to be plenty of battery power, but just one hard click when I turn the key. Tried a jump box, same result.
Did I just lock up my motor? So you are probably thinking two things. It could be a lot of stuff and maybe I am not qualified to be working on it. Problem is, I don't have the money to take it to a shop, so either I learn by doing, or the boat sits. So please help, where do I start????????
Guessing I need to try and turn it by hand. So what? Disconnect the battery, pull the plugs, and then what. How would I turn it?
Also, what started all this? Impellor? I just took off my duct taped hose and a ton of water poured out. The water pump seemed to have been doing its job with all the spraying and what not.
Thanks in advance.
