Wood paste for mahogany

Hi all,
Has anyone used, or know of, a product to fill cracks in mahogany dimensional lumber? These are not structural cracks. They are a result of neglect and exposure to weather. I will need to varnish over these repairs, so want something that comes close to this wood color. I am in the process of repairing (not restoring) the console in a 1966 Boston Whaler, 16' Sakonnet model. The vertical corner posts (2X2) are what need filling. I think a product that hardens would be better than one that stays flexible. Any input will be appreciated.

check home depot paint dept. they have colored wood filler.

Some can be stained, but it is trial and error- use small scrap test pieces. different shades of stain, or a mixture.

stain it after, but it is a pain; hard to match aged wood, and the labels lie.
Trying to match some cherry built in 1972 took 6 pints, wouldn't match.
I had to start mixing them, trial and error. Maybe lay some lines of the filler, let them dry, and start staining, trying different stains.
Just because it says mahogany is no guaranty. Wood darkens as it ages.

Yup,

One that I've tried is elmer's professional wood filler "mahogany". Stained over that and later covered with epoxy then blue water's no sand varnish. You've gotta get on your hands and knees up to about 6" away to notice, if at all.

This was on ribbon striped sapele...already very dark. Likewise the filler is very dark.

When doing abalone and mother of pearl inlay in fretted instruments, they mix powdered wood (whatever the fretboard is made of) and glue. I don't know how big a section you're filling but this might work.

OK, Thanks. Guess I'll try trial and error.

I do woodworking as a hobby and what a lot of people do is take a scrap piece of the same wood and make several cuts in it to get a good pile of saw dust. Take the saw dust and add some glue to form a paste and apply it with a putty knife and then sand it flush.

I think I will try the sawdust/glue method. That shouldn't be too far off. Thanks to all for the input.

I had planned on using carpenters exterior, water proof glue. The yellow/tan kind in a squeeze container. If that's wrong, somebody please holler.
