Work on older motors

I have called a couple mechanics in my area due to the fact that I know little to nothing about fixing motors. What they have told me is that they will not service motors as old as mine (I have what I think is around a 1965 model). Is this true of most all mechanics or does it just so happend to be the 2 or 3 around my area that I called?

There are a few of us grizzled old wrenches around who specialize in older engines, Gamecock.<br /><br />The younger guys have one or more of three problems with them:<br /><br />1. At $65-$80 an hour, few customers are willing to pay for fixing an old engine.<br /><br />2. Too many "modern" wrenches use the easter egg hunt method of troubleshooting: change parts until it starts to work. The amount of business they get on old engines doesn't justify the inventory necessary to support parts changers.<br /><br />3. If your customer has, or can get, a good running old engine he is less likely to buy a new one.<br /><br />As a result, many old engine owners buy a manual, spend a lot of time on iboats and service their own engines.
