My very first outboard was a 1957 40 horse twin. Didn't run when I got it, but after a month, she ran like a top. Hung it on the back of a 1967 14 foot fiberglass traveler boat and had a ball. I took the tiller off and jury rigged a steering wheel. Picked up controls from an Old timer I knew.

Wish I still had both the boat and outboard. It looked alot like the one in Samo's avatar.

That would have had to have been a 35. The 40's didn't go into production till 1960. My very first outboard is the one in my avitar.:cool:

Hmmmmm........Zeph, you may be right........coulda swore it was a 40. Either way it was a great motor, and I had a ball with that rig.

The reason it wouldn't run? Shorted wire(burnt insulation)......and yes it took me a month to figure it out.
