From another board someone sugested hooking to rectifier for another boater I thought what the heck frustration has me trying anything and lo and behold it works not sure if it reads right but it seems right for the idle speed it was running. now I just hope that it wont wreak anything else.

Fins...<br /><br />That's the standard set up for pre-voltage regulator engines. One of the stator wires. The stator is 'standard' 12 pole with most manufacurers. Look at the back of the tach and you'll find there's a selector switch, probably with '4', '6', '8' and '12pole' (or 'ALT') on it. For a 2 stroke outboard it should be on '12pole' (or 'ALT').<br /><br />Chris.........

I had two tachs one has 1 2 3 on it and the other has alt I used the one with 1 2 3 and it works on three.
