Kinda neat, but the two-strokes just don't sound right. They shoulda put a quad set of rotary four-strokes on the beast! :D

Re: Worlds Largest R/C Plane....

This was the worlds biggest R/C plane.

speaking of R/C heres a vid of what I used to do in my spare time. I used to be a sponsored heli pilot but gave it up a couple of years ago...

Wasn't a full scale B-52 used as a drone once?

Nice chopper flying! Plenty of brute force there. I ordered a little cheapo to fly around the living room and maybe chase squirrels out in the front yard. :D

I always liked this indoor R/C airplane video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gulv_bvZS94

That's the plane that I mentioned in the SR-71 thread, except the wing spam is a lot larger than I remembered.

Heck, you could probably buy a nice, used Cessna 172 for what that RC cost to build!

Re: Worlds Largest R/C Plane....

Radio Control stuff isn't all that expensive, I got into the hobby about 20 yrs ago.
Futaba PCM 5 channels with servos $250.00
basic trainer airplane kit 50.00
misc hardware glues wing covering ect. 50.00
motor prop plugs fuel battery ect. 100.00
add another 50 bucks for things you don't think of 50.00
500.00 was more than enough to get you started.

Those two stroke weed whip motors are about 100.00 each. and if you already have the radio gear and build from scratch it's more time than money.

Agree...I had all that same stuff, electric engine starter, Trainer plane. I might had a touch over 5 in it...One of my less expensive toys :D

Why is it that when ever somebody see a R/C flying the first thought the have is shotgun?!?!? Have to admit I've had the same thoughts...lmao...;)

Re: Worlds Largest R/C Plane....

I just surfed a little, trying to get some info on this RC plane. There doesn't seem to be much, unless you want to watch a bunch of videos. What I did find out, is that it has a wingspan of 30 feet, weighs 463 pounds and has 4, 160cc engines.

Its a "one off" item, meaning that someone had to design and build it from scratch. Since the laws of aerodynamics apply to it in the same way as a full scale airplane, someone spent some time on this one. They also had to have a barn, or something similar, to build it in. I suppose the wings could be detachable, but if they are, there is further design and construction complication, in order to make that work.

I also ran across some info on an RC B51, with a 23 foot wingspan. It had 8, miniature jet engines and the same sort of realism involved. Unfortunately, it seems that the builder crashed it, the first time he flew it. The crash was described as "very realistic," because it end up being pretty much a smoking mess of rubble! Ouch!

At any rate, somehow I'm thinkin' that this one cost a bit more than five hundred bucks to build!
