Since gas milage is a popular topic I wonder which car I had that sucked it the most. I think the 79 chevy truck with the 350 4 barrel automatic that had some burned valves was it.... Couldnt have got more than 9 to 10mpg and the 75 351M LTD was close behind , maybe 12 to 13mpg. next a 66 ford with a 428 4 barrel 7 litre convertable, maybe 13 /16

Mine would have been my 76 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 with a 390 4barrel. I'm quite shure it got about 5 miles to the gallon loaded or empty. But boy it would go anywhere i wanted to go with more power than most trucks today.

I drove a 1966 (I think) Dodge push button transmission ex Virginia State Police car. My Uncle gave it to my sister who gave it to me. I could buy "cleaned" oil for 19 cents a gallon if I brought my own milk jug. It burned as much oil as gas. I never calculated the gas mileage of that vehicle but I know it was not very good.:eek:

P.S. I could fog for mosquitos as I cruised around town. But I still managed to pick up the ladies when I cruised.:D Oh, those lost years of my youth!!

Had to be my old 86 Chevy 3/4 ton, 454, 4 speed with 4:11 gears. It got and honest 9 mile to the gallon, empty. Heck, my new F350 4X4 SuperDuty diesel isn't much better at 12-1/2 mpg around town 16 on the hwy, if you watch your speed. :(

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 Mega Cab, 5.7 Hemi, 5 speed auto, current daily driver 12 mpg (at best)

2002 Ford Explorer 4X4, Loaded Eddie Bauer, 4.0 V6, 4 speed auto, wife's current daily driver, 14 mpg

At least you guys had some horsepower to go with your poor gas mileage. My 258 six cylinder powered Jeep only gets 11-14 on the interstate. It's only got 112 whooping horsepower.

Well, there's something wrong with your truck then.
I just traded off a 2004 quad cab 4x4 with the hemi and heck, I could get 13.:D:p

My F350 with a non turbo'd 7.3 diesel gets about 8 on the highway and 4 to 6 when pulling my boat. When I got it, diesel was cheaper than gasoline. Within a month after purchase is when the diesel started to skyrocket.

A few of my friends that have the same engine thinks I need to go get it tuned up. They said I should at least top 10 when pulling the boat.

My worst was the 1992 Dodge Ram 1500 Full-Size van I drove in High School. Got about 12-13 MPG. 'course, that was back when the Gallons meter turned over faster than the $ meter... It had some nice power to go with it though. Even in such a huge machine, a Dodge 360 will get you up and going pretty quick.

Got rid of my wife's 4.0 liter 1999 Jeep Wrangler last summer. That thing only got about 14mpg highway, and it was gutless to boot.

Now I drive a Tahoe. 17 whopping MPG highway! :D

Had a 1978 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (360) that got about 8mpg towing, and a 1975 Ford F150 Crew Cab 2X4 with a 460 that got about 10mpg.

Don't remember anything else in that class.

Right now I have a 78 Bronco 351M parked with a plow in the driveway and when I ran it on the road I felt good when I got 11 -12 mpg. My 95 Chev K2500 350 w/4.10's get a respectable 15 mpg......

2004 Ford F-250 Extended Cab - 5.4 Liter - 8" Fabtech Susepesion Lift - 325.85.R16 Tires (37")= 12.5 mpg... on the highway

Which means, it stays hooked to the boat trailer and I drive my '06 Tacoma a lot:)

Pick any V8 4bbl pickup truck with a 4:10 rear and you have a gas sucking machine.

What is this? A "Can you top this?" gas milage question?
Ok, I'll play,

My street driven (factory designed-track only) 1963' Plymouth Fury 426" Ramcharger with a 4:56 rear, got about 5-10mpg, but who cared back in 1965?

Yrs later, my beautiful 71' Caddy Coupe Deville, 4800lb 2dr. 472" V8 (reg unleaded) got 10-12mpg.

and my (bought new) 69' Dodge Charger R/T 440" V8 auto, got 10-14mpg

finally, my old (Fire Chiefs car) 72' loaded Pontiac Grand Safari wagon with a 455" V8 auto got 10-14mpg, and did better mpg wise then my sisters 73' Buick Estate wagon 455" V8 auto. and it was faster too!

Re: worse gas milage

Most all of those vehicles with the worst mileage, especially xxx jeep with the smaller engine are all stump pullers. A low rear end gear is the worst contributor to mileage. Second would be vehicle weight. Lastly is the size of the motor. Also, the transmissions connected to them don't have overdrive, either stick or auto.

I have a 1978 Chevy Camaro Z-28 that gets 3 to 4 mpg. Its got 4:11 gears, a 4 speed, and a 450 horse 402 BBC. Its a fun car, but I only drive it a quarter mile at a time. There is no better way to spend 12 seconds. ;)

Ask my wife, she'll tell ya different!! ;):D:D:D

Worked for a plumber in high school, he had '71-72 Olds Vista cruiser wagon with 350 rocket. Loaded with about a ton of Rigid tools and lead toilet seats! Did about 100 miles per weekend and put 20-25 gallons back to fill er again. Makes my 2004 1500 Dodge Quad cab 4x4 with 5.7 hemi seem like a dream 13/19 mpg.

LOL...mine is the mega cab, which means I'm riding a 2500 suspension system, and the dry weight of the truck is 6437lbs. Add the 4.10:1 non-slip rear end and that makes up for the difference :D

I've been told that I would stop treating it like a baby and give her some skinny pedal that the mileage would actually improve. I find it hard to stand on the throttle in a $45K truck that just turned 500 miles on the odometer.
