Winterized the boat yesterday. #8^(
Supposed to be upper 70s/low 80s this weekend, but could be low 30s the next night. April won't come soon enough!

Re: Worst day of the year!

I usually take such opportunities to be one of those annoying southerners at times like this, but, well, my boat is "down" at the moment for a hull repair!

I hit a log a couple of weeks ago, looked at the hull when I got back on the trailer, but didn't notice any cracks. After more use, however, I noticed a discolored spot near the bow, that revealed a crack in the glass. Digging into it revealed more damage and some wet FG, so I had to grind the bad stuff out. I am now glassing it back in, a layer at a time, to get a good repair.

I hate it when the boat is down!

2 words... HEATED GARAGE! Allows me to run the boat deep into the season ... until the lake turns hard. ;)

Oh I wish. I live in a rural area and use propane for heating. Runs me $350-500/mo in the Winter for the house, without heating the basement. Would be more but I installed a fireplace insert a few years ago, and we burn 2-3 cords/yr as well. Can't imagine what it would cost to heat the garage! Bad thing is, if the garage heater fails, I'd be replacing 2 engines, 4 manifolds, etc! Just not worth it.
I used to go out until mid-Nov when I had the jetboat. But it was a 5min deal to winterize it. Pop the block drains, pull a few hoses and let her drain on the way home. Many times I still miss her.

When I was at the marina this spring getting some parts the service manager showed me an exhaust manifold from a 4.3 that was in a heated garage. It had a fist sized hole in it. Owner never new the heater failed until he started the boat in the spring and it sprayed water everywhere!

Re: Worst day of the year!

My garage has the house over it and beside it and is underground on 2 sides, only exposed side is the garage doors ... only have to turn on the gas heater when it gets below 0 degrees (and because it is a ventless it throws out too much moisture). Other than that, it is all good. ;)

Don't winterize here either, garage keep. But when the season ends we just turn to other activities to keep us entertained.

Annoying southerner checking in:)

Me too!!!
Sorry to hear it's ending for you all "Up There". My son moved to Cleveland, OH. several years ago from down here. His excuse was he followed some girl home. This is the time of year I start sending him weather updates frequently to remind him where he should be.
My aunt said it best the other day. "People who choose to live up north, deserve it". We will pray for an early spring.

Re: Worst day of the year!

2 nites ago we got down to 25. Of course, they didn't forecast it until the 10pm news. Needless to say, I drained the block and hoses yesterday(34 last nite). Still not going to give into winter yet.......

1st frost in Upstate SC is early November. So at least another month of cruising in the i/o :D. Probably will leave the Pontoon in all winter for those warm sunny days that come along every now and then during the winter.

I pulled the MO boat this morning and she'll be winterized and put away this week. Time to repower the TX boat for the Fall season.

Re: Worst day of the year!

I'm keeping mine at the slip until October 31st. It won't be long until I feel your pain.

Here we usually don't get below freezing until late November or early December.
