Worth buying?

Hello Folks,

New to this forum and boating, great info here

I have a chance to buy a 1999 Sea Ray 190 bowrider with the 4.3 merc engine, price is 15k.

The boat is in excellent condition and the seller has already knocked off 2k from his original asking price.

I realize it's a buyers market out there, but is this a good buy?

Also comes with a ez loader dual axle trailer with surge (whatever that is )

It's a sellers market right now, lots of used boats out there for much less, 15K for a 10yr old boat thats a big coin. Sorry not much help am I.

searay is a good boat 4.3 minimum hp. 15K is too much for a 10 y/o, unless it is show room, and all bellows, manifolds, changed and a tune up in the last couple of months.

Buying a boat

1st you need to decide what you want to use it for, fishing, cruising, or water sports.

2nd how many people adults, children you want on board of the average outing.

3rd outboard, inboard-outboard, or inboard power plant.

4th Budget, what you want to pay, and what you are willing to pay, when you find
Exactly what you want.

You can hire a marine surveyor, to inspect the boat, or you can do it yourself.

You are mainly looking for soft spots in the deck, transom, cracks, all signs of a rotten, under frame.

The motor should be clean, no spots where the paint is discolored, or pealing from heat, having run hot. Compression should be atleast 100psi, and within 10% of each other,
Spark on all cylinders, good pee stream, check lower unit for water in oil.

The overall condition of the boat will tell you a lot, as to how it has been maintained.

A 30 year old boat motor combo, may be in better condition, than a 3 year old.

I have a good idea of what I will be doing, people etc. it was the price that got me to post here.


Do you know of a "buyers guide" out there (hopefully free) that list's book value numbers like Kelly blue book does for cars?

Nada is a total waste of time. it is not a realistic representation of the real world, on boats 5 years old or older.

I think it's a bit high.....but you need to consider what it's worth to YOU. What I mean is, if exactly you what is a 19' open bow in great shape AND you don't enjoy looking for boats (I do!) then maybe you pay a bit more than if you ALSO are determined to get a good price. Needing a good price means sometimes you walk away and look a lot more.

Searay isn't Cobalt, but they DO have a good rep and hold value pretty well. Maybe offer $12.5K, then walk for a week and check back? That at least gets you in the ballpark.

I bought my 99 last year with the 5.0 and only 46 hours on it for 15k 190 Sig BR in mint condition + trailer. Offer 12K JMHO

The price seems high. I bought the boat in my signature for $3,600.00 last May.

Any input you get here on pricing is going to be very iffy. Your local market is the biggest driver on price.
