hey guys,

with WOT, i am hitting about 33 mph (according to my speedo, and not sure just how accurate it is)---thought i would get a little more out of my mercruiser 3.0, 135 hp, but hey, i knew that 4 banger would not be the fastest on the lake, but the fuel economy sure is good.

also, anyone know where the hour meter is located?

oh, i have a 18 ft bowrider (viva)----thanks,
rocky

Re: WOT and engine hours

Ours is a 3.0 litre merc alpha 1 GM 181 cu in The claim is 3000 rpm's at
30 mph = 3 gallons per hour. Ours has the stock prop and will do about 42mph
at 4400 rpm. I won't take it any higher than that.
I have heard others ask about and hour meter ! I have none on ours it's an 88.
Try looking in the engine compartment. If not on the dash it may not have one at all or could have been removed .

My boat does not have an hour meter on it either but it runs great, it does 63mph at 4400rpms :)

Re: WOT and engine hours

I talked to the mechanic who was aware of all servicing of my boat by the previous owner, and he said they hooked the engine up to the computer to get a read on engine hours!
This is from my local Marine Max and I believe them to be credible.

I have a VIP Viva w/ 3.0 that tops out just over 40 mph. That's with only my 180 lbs. in the the boat.
Seems like you should get a little more speed outta her. Do you know what prop you're runnin? I have both 19p and 21p aluminum props either one will do 40mph, but 21 keeps the rpms down for faster cruising while 19p gives better hole-shot for water skiing.

My Viva 3.0 didn't come with an hour meter either. I'm not the first owner and have no idea how many hours are on the boat. The 3.0 is a pretty simple engine, I don't understand how they could retreive history of hours. I'm not aware of any computer "brain" on that engine where it would be stored???

Re: WOT and engine hours

:rolleyes:I had the chance to take it out the other day and the water was almost like glass---speedo says I was hitting 40-I`m happy with that-
the prop? who knows? came with the boat-it`s a 3 blade stainless-it works for me--I just like to buzz around the lake.
My lake can get really choppy at times, but the VIP goes along well.
