25 hp Tohatsu ,Ive done the break in procedure properly and I love this motor. I have about 7 tanks of fuel through it/her/motor and now Id like to open up to WOT for a few mins. Can This motor run wide open for a long time?or should I turn it back after a couple of minutes? I dont have a tach so Im going by throttle setting.
thx

Re: WOT for how long?

If your doing it brand new just follow the recomended amount of time on break in. I have a 2010 20hp Tohatsu which was brand new and after the recommended time I ran it wide open for miles down the river. Once her time is up, see what shes got! Tohatsus are tough, mine has lost no power and still starts on the first pull most of the time. And I run it hard usually twice a week. After the recommended break in time you can run it wide open till she runs out of gas. Shell start right back up

I take it you have an MFS25B, right? The harder you run it, the better it will run. Even without a tach, if you are under-propped too much, the ESG will engage to prevent you from exceeding proper WOT RPM.

Is it electric start? If not, and you don't have a battery connected to it to prime the fuel system, don't run it completely empty, or you will need to pull a lot of times to get the fuel system re-primed.

Wot is the setting with guzzles the most amount of fuel from tank, usually 12% of it's HP per hour at wot for the 2 strokes versions, full throttle just to plane faster if heavyly loaded, then back up to 3/4 throttle for best gas milleage, will not experiment that much Ohh speed going from 3/4 throttle to wot, but will burn much more gas.

Happy Boating

This is a fuel injected 3-cylinder 4-stroke. It can run WOT all day.

Are there already 25 HP 3 cylinder LTD engines on the market, or only standard 2 cylinder/4 strokes carbed ones ?

The MFS25B the MFS30B have been out a few years, and are indeed EFI 3 cylinder 4-stroke motors. Start and run like a car :) Their predecessor was a 3-carb motor. Just as strong, but the EFI is really crisp acceleration.

Sorry forgot to mention its a 2 stroke.

I really like this motor performance wise, its not smooth but I like its snarl compared to my buddy's 4 stroke yamaha.
just want to make sure the piston and wrist pin can take it,Id rather not be caught in a 4 ft chop with the little ones.

thx everyone.

Re: WOT for how long?

Sorry for thinking you had the 3-cyl EFI. In North America, the premix 2-strokes have long been phased out, and everything 30 hp and under is now 4-stroke.

Sorry to disagree but I can buy a brand new 2 stroke Merc Sea Pro (Tohatsu) here in Canada(the north part of North.Am.) but yes Tohatsu doesnt make the pre mix 2 stroke anymore for the US market.......Should I send down a few and see if we can make some $$$? lol
