I recently bought a 17ft. Mako with a 115 evinrude 1984.It runs great and the compression is great.I think it may have the wrong prop on it because it takes a little while to get on plane and then goes like a rocket and runs at about 4200 rpm but has way more left to go,over 5000 I would say.At about 37-3800 it can begin to come off plane.Cant find #s on prop and I tried a doel fin.Any Ideas on the wot range??? Crazy,

The operating range for that engine is 4500-5500.

You do not want to "lug" it, as you are doing.

I would prop it to run about 5500 with a very light load. That will put you around 5K with a moderate to heavy load.

You can figure that each inch of prop is worth 200 rpm's.

I would start with a 13 1/4" X 15". That is a heavy boat.

Thanks for the reply guys,I did not realize the 115 was designed to run at that high rpm.My other boat is a larger i/o and at3400 rpm I am moving nicely. The problem may be me .I usually back off the throttle when it gets near 4500.I guess I shouldnt.I will have to peg it to see if I top out at 5500.
