WOT question

When selecting a new prop all the prop guys tell you your goal is to reach but not excede the recommended WOT range. They also say that running at WOT at a lower rpm causes the motor to be lugging and will eventually hurt the motor. Right? But my question is, if you are more prone to run your motor in the 2000-2200 rpm range pulling tubes and skiers are you also hurting your motor? My boats gph sweet spot is around 30mph @ 3000 rpm. I prefer to be on the water all day versus getting to the pump fast, but don't want to be doing any damage while I'm being frugal.
Any thoughts or is WOT really just a benchmark we need to work from ?

Re: WOT question

I think the WOT range is just a reference point on the curve.

If you can't get to the recommended WOT range, you are lugging your engine at all points along the way.

If you can get to the higher side of the WOT range, then you are not lugging it at different rpm settings along the way and not doing any damage.

Hope this helps.

Or in other words: If the prop is wrong at WOT it is wrong at any other throttle setting.

Re: WOT question

This is sort of like buying new shoes that don't fit right. It doesn't matter whether you are jogging, running, or walking, they still don't fit.
