Okay, so I have a 1992 40hp outboard on my 18' pontoon. Currently it is running around 5200 RPM at WOT for a whopping 16mph according to the GPS. I have been looking for some factory specifications on this motor, but I am having trouble finding anything other than parts catologs.
The SN# 0G267832
The Model number of the motor from what I can tell is:104012RD
I'm trying to determine if it is over proped, and if I can get a bit more out of it without sacrificing the motor itself.
I have tried to get the part number off of the prop, but the powder coating is too thick and has filled in the numbers, so I have no idea what is currently on there.
I was thinking of getting a new prop, and keeping the current one as a back-up just incase. But like I said, If if could get more out of it that would be great.
The boat is lightly loaded, just gas, seats, usually two adults and fishing gear.
Any help or advice is greatly appriciated.
