ahoy, still have the issue, 2200 Max RPM. is there a rev limiter on a mercruiser 140, if so where is it.

I was paging through my father's Mercruiser service manual last weekend. He has the 2.5 litre 120hp Merccruiser and the max rpm for that motor is 4600 rpm. I believe it is the same for your 140 hp. Just thought I'd throw that into the thread here.

Are you the original owner?
could the drive have the wrong gear ratio?
Was the drive ever changed?
compression readings with throttle wide open
firing order 1,3,4,2

Have you verified your carb is going to full throttle.
Good fuel,
good fuel pump, timing correct, exhaust plugged with the flapper valve,
are you maitaining good fuel pressure to the carb.
Old fuel lines will swell shut especially if you have old fuel lines and eth. fuel.
What pitch prop do you have?
What size boat.
