Hey guys, I have a 91 Mercruiser 3.0 with Alpha 1. My question is, what is the WOT RPM for this engine? Any help would be great. Bought this boat a few years back and want to make sure prop is right and not over doing it.

Re: Wot rpm

Thanks Don! I am going to check this weekend but I think it was running about 5000 rpm. What is the best way to fix this if it is? Change the prop?

Re: Wot rpm

Need to know if the prop is in excellent condition. When you hit the 5000 rpm, were you on glass perfectly trimmed with an empty load or average (typ) load? Are you sure the tach is set to the correct cylinders? If yes, switch back and forth a few times and retest the WOT.

Need to make sure of everything before making a pitch change, just in case.

Assuming everything else is opperating properly an increase in pitch should reduce RPM's you may need a steep change to cut 400 to 800 RPM's.

Re: Wot rpm

Prop is in perfect shape and is a SS. I will try all this this weekend and let you guys know. I was going by the dash tach so I will put a separate tach on and see what it is. Thanks very much for all the info. This Forum is the best on the internet by far!
